According to the authorities, a lady from Oakland County is facing charges after it was reported that she left a loaded pistol in the bag of her three-year-old child while she was dropping her off at a child care facility.
According to statements made by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, Kelly Reid, a woman who resides in West Bloomfield and is 34 years old, is being charged with the irresponsible use of a handgun. For this offence, she faces the prospect of being sentenced to a maximum of ninety days in jail and/or a fine of five hundred dollars, in addition to the chance of having her hunting rights revoked for a period of about three years.
According to reports, a lady left her child at a child care centre in Royal Oak on Wednesday, May 14, and provided the staff with a rucksack that was intended to carry the food that the youngster, who was three years old, would have.
Upon opening the bag, however, it was discovered that it contained a firearm that was loaded.
She failed to remove the pistol from the backpack before leaving the three-year-old, according to Reid, who reported to the authorities that she had placed the firearm in the backpack for transportation to and from her vehicle.
“I am thankful that this is a story about a misdemeanour charge rather than a tragedy,” said Karen McDonald, the prosecutor for Oakland County. “It is necessary to safeguard a pistol that is loaded. It is completely irresponsible to fail to do so when in the presence of young children. The worker who discovered the firearm deserves praise for moving swiftly to secure it and make contact with the authorities to report it.
