The individual, who is 21 years old, was identified by the police on Monday. He is suspected of leading officers on a pursuit that resulted in a collision with another vehicle early on Saturday morning in west Lubbock.
It was around 3:11 a.m. when a Lubbock police officer reportedly noticed a Lincoln Town Car driving dangerously in the 5800 block of 19th Street. The officer then attempted to make a traffic stop, according to a statement released by the Lubbock Police Department. This is what sparked the pursuit.
Diego Castillo, who is 21 years old and the driver of the vehicle, is accused of escaping the scene, which led to the pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle was going south in the 4500 block of West Loop 289 when it exited at the Marsha Sharp Freeway. At that point, it made an effort to pass a pickup truck that was in front of it.
Still, the truck and the automobile were involved in a collision.
According to the police, Castillo made an attempt to flee on foot, but he was taken into custody shortly after doing so. The Lubbock County Detention Center was the location where he was taken. In addition to an unrelated warrant, he is being charged with reckless driving, evading in a vehicle, evading on foot, possession of marijuana, failing to identify himself, and failure to stop and offer aid. A warrant has also been issued for him. Castillo was not to be seen at the detention center as of Monday, according to the documents kept by the jail.
A few minor injuries were sustained by the driver of the pickup truck.
This incident is still being looked into by authorities.
