Young Child Dies After "Slow Speed" Crash in Salt Lake City, Police Confirm

After what the authorities are referring to as a “slow speed” collision in Salt Lake City on Thursday evening, a little boy suffered fatal injuries and passed away.

According to Brent Weisberg, who works for the Salt Lake City Police Department, officers arrived at the location near 350 East Wilson Avenue at approximately six o’clock in the evening. Upon their arrival, the officers discovered a “very young child” who was suffering from injuries that were potentially fatal.

The infant was taken to a nearby hospital after first responders conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on them. Nevertheless, they succumbed to their wounds and died.

When it struck the youngster, an SUV was “moving at a slow rate of speed” in the driveway, according to Weisberg, who stated that the preliminary inquiry revealed this information. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and is providing assistance to the law enforcement personnel. Apparently, Weisberg is related to the child in question.

In his statement, Brent Weisberg, a spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police Department, described the tragedy as one that has a profound impact on both the police and the community.

Weisberg stated that this is one of those calls that truly shakes our officers to their very core.

On account of the severity of the injuries, the major crash team of the Salt Lake City Police Department arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. According to the authorities, there is no indication that there was any kind of impairment or foul play.

Not only for the family that was involved, but also for the community as a whole, Weisberg stated that “it is shaping up to be a horrible accident,” which is something that is quite tragic. “The officers of our department, along with the firefighters, paramedics, and hospital staff who did everything in their power to save this child, are having a difficult time.”

As investigators worked their way through the site on Thursday evening, Wilson Avenue was off-limits between 300 East and 400 East respectively. Additionally, social workers and chaplains from the Salt Lake City Police Department were present at the hospital and on-site in order to offer support to people who were impacted by the incident.

During the course of the investigation, the authorities have stated that they will carry out a comprehensive assessment while also providing assistance to the family that is in mourning.
